“There remains one thread, the one I first started to unwind: that of literature as an existential function, the search for lightness as a reaction to the weight of living.”

- Italo Calvino

Tim Schwartz and Ian White Williams have maintained a rich dialogue through their artwork for nearly twenty years. Though at times working in entirely different mediums and from opposite sides of the country, this dialogue continues to persist.

While many common threads can be found between the work of Schwartz and Williams, three concepts tend to resonate with greatest tenacity: lightness, quickness and openness. Unique in their processes, they explore these conceptual ties through different sets of lenses, some of which include the start/finish line of a NASCAR race, the pacing of a labyrinth, or the writing of the moon.

Their 2012 exhibition Slow Correspondence at Fjord gallery presented a look at the ongoing exchange between these two artists with common philosophies but distinct voices. Inspired by this celebratory exhibition at Fjord, Tim Schwartz and Ian White Williams 'Fjord Club Wagon' at Larry Becker Contemporary Art re-imagines and expands the scope of Slow Correspondence. Its playful title speaks to the network of galleries, friends, and artists that came together in support of broadening the “correspondence” between Schwartz and Williams' work.
